Denise Melton

Veterinarian and Owner

Dr. Melton founded Tamberly Animal Hospital with the vision of creating a veterinary experience where families feel genuinely supported, informed, and confident in their pet’s care. She proudly serves pet families throughout Milton, Woodstock, Canton, Holly Springs, Alpharetta, and the greater North Atlanta community.

A Georgia native, Dr. Melton was born and raised in the state, and most of her family still calls Georgia home. Her deep local roots give her a strong connection to the community she serves.

Before pursuing veterinary medicine, Dr. Melton graduated from Georgia Tech and began her career with Hewlett Packard. While she valued that experience, she felt called to a profession where she could combine science, problem-solving, and compassion in a more direct and meaningful way. She returned to school to follow that calling and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.

She began her veterinary career in emergency medicine, providing urgent and critical care at multiple hospitals across North Georgia. That early experience shaped her steady, thoughtful approach to complex cases and strengthened her ability to remain calm and decisive when pets need immediate care. Over the past decade in general practice, she has cared for dogs and cats through every stage of life -- from first puppy visits to senior support and everything in between.

Dr. Melton has a special interest in helping puppies and kittens get off to a healthy start. She enjoys partnering with families from that very first visit, building preventive care plans that support lifelong health. She is equally passionate about senior pet care, focusing on mobility, comfort, and improving quality of life as pets age.

Living and practicing in Georgia also means regularly treating allergies and dermatologic conditions common in this climate. Chronic skin and ear issues can be frustrating for both pets and their families, and Dr. Melton works closely with owners to create practical, long-term solutions that provide meaningful relief.

Just as important as medical expertise is the experience pets have during their visit. Dr. Melton prioritizes low-stress veterinary care and believes appointments should feel calm, gentle, and positive whenever possible. You’ll often find plenty of treats, patient reassurance, and a thoughtful pace designed to help even nervous pets feel more comfortable. She understands that trust is built one visit at a time.

At home, Dr. Melton shares life with her two dogs: Finnegan, a Maltese mix, and Gracie, a Havanese. They keep her well aware of the joys (and occasional mischief) that come with loving pets as family members. If you look closely, you may even spot photos of Finnegan and Gracie sprinkled throughout the Tamberly website. A small reminder that this hospital was built by a pet owner who cares deeply about treating every patient like her own.
